A Greg Norman-designed, all-bentgrass course set within a natural white birch forest
Nestled amidst the expansive natural beauty of Shimizu Town in Tokachi, Hokkaido Classic Golf Club Obihiro is a distinguished 36-hole golf resort featuring the prestigious Classic Course, designed by golf legend Greg Norman. The course seamlessly blends Hokkaido's magnificent landscape with a thoughtfully crafted, highly strategic design, offering golfers an unforgettable playing experience.
Recognized as one of Hokkaido's premier championship courses, the Classic Course is renowned for its exceptionally rare all-bentgrass layout, with both fairways and greens maintained entirely in bentgrass. Set across gently rolling terrain, the course offers broad fairways, generous spacing between holes, and an atmosphere of openness that reflects the grandeur of Hokkaido's natural environment.
While visually inviting, the course presents a rewarding strategic challenge. Ponds, creeks, and other water hazards are carefully incorporated throughout the layout, with a single stream influencing play on six different holes. Golfers must carefully consider the natural contours and slopes of the fairways when planning each shot, making course management just as important as distance and accuracy.
The course's signature hole is the 6th, a memorable risk-and-reward par 5. A lake stretches along the entire right side of the fairway toward the green, presenting golfers with a strategic decision from the tee. Those who confidently carry their drive over the water toward the narrowest section of the lake are rewarded with the opportunity to reach the green in two shots. Balancing risk and reward is the defining characteristic of this hole, making it one of the most iconic and strategically demanding holes on the course.
The clubhouse restaurant provides a welcoming setting where guests can relax before or after their round while enjoying panoramic views of the course through its expansive windows. The menu showcases the rich flavors of Hokkaido, featuring dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients alongside popular favorites such as Japanese set meals, noodle dishes, and curry. Seasonal specialties are also available, allowing visitors to experience the region's finest ingredients throughout the year.
