A true championship course that hosted the 2023 Kansai Open
Izumigaoka Country Club, located in Toyoda, Minami‑ku, Sakai City, Osaka, is a prestigious 27‑hole championship venue set across gently rolling hills. Since its opening on August 23, 1975, the club has earned a strong reputation as one of South Osaka’s leading membership courses.
The club features three distinct 9‑hole courses—Katsuragi, Iwawaki, and Kongo—each offering a unique strategic character. Katsuragi challenges players with visually intimidating valley carries, Iwawaki invites bold drives across its relatively flat and expansive fairways, and Kongo demands precision with numerous doglegs and cross bunkers.
Izumigaoka has also served as a stage for major professional competition, including hosting the Kansai Open Golf Championship, a prominent men’s professional tournament.
One of the club’s most notable features is its exceptional green quality. The greens use Penn A‑1 bentgrass, the same variety once used at Augusta National Golf Club. Meticulous maintenance—including advanced low‑water fertilization techniques used at U.S. Open venues—ensures consistently smooth, fast surfaces, often exceeding 9 feet year‑round and reaching 12 feet during club championships.
Although the course does not have a driving range on site, it offers a refined clubhouse, a bright and open restaurant featuring seasonal cuisine, and a serene natural environment that feels far removed from the city despite its convenient location.
With its combination of strategic design, high‑quality conditioning, and professional tournament pedigree, Izumigaoka Country Club provides a rewarding challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
