The Host Venue of the 87th Japan PGA Championship in 2019
Ibusuki Golf Club is one of Japan's premier seaside golf courses, beautifully situated along the coast of Kagoshima Bay with spectacular views of Mount Kaimon, often referred to as the "Fuji of Satsuma."
Designed by the legendary Seiichi Inoue, the course was created with professional tournament golf in mind, offering a championship-caliber layout that has stood the test of time. Making full use of its natural coastal setting, the course is shaped by the unique challenge of the "Kaimon Oroshi," a downhill wind from Mount Kaimon, and strong sea breezes from Kagoshima Bay. These constantly shifting winds, together with strategically placed bunkers and natural hazards, demand thoughtful club selection and precise shot-making throughout the round.
The 18-hole layout offers an excellent balance of challenge and playability, rewarding strategic course management while showcasing the area's spectacular natural beauty. The spacious bentgrass one-green complexes, averaging approximately 800 square meters, feature subtle undulations and are maintained in exceptional condition despite the warm climate of Japan's southernmost mainland. Several memorable holes play alongside the coastline, offering panoramic views of Kagoshima Bay and Mount Kaimon while testing golfers against the ever-changing coastal winds. The finishing stretch is particularly impressive, combining breathtaking ocean vistas with a championship-caliber design that provides a truly unforgettable conclusion to the round.
The course has earned a distinguished reputation as one of Japan's leading championship venues. In addition to hosting numerous professional tournaments, including the former LPGA Tour event, the Hisako Higuchi IDC Otsuka Ladies, it also served as the host venue of the 87th Japan PGA Championship in 2019. Its tournament pedigree, exceptional conditioning, and world-class design have established Ibusuki Golf Club as one of Kyushu's most respected golfing destinations.
Beyond the course, the club offers a relaxing resort atmosphere unique to Ibusuki. Players can enjoy fresh local cuisine featuring regional specialties, while the surrounding area is renowned for its hot spring resorts and the famous natural sand baths. Combining championship golf, spectacular coastal scenery, and the warm hospitality of southern Kyushu, Ibusuki Golf Club delivers an unforgettable golfing experience.
