A magnificent 36-hole masterpiece designed by the renowned Seiichi Inoue
Opened in 1971 in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, Tsurumai Country Club is a prestigious 36-hole championship venue designed by the legendary Seiichi Inoue, often hailed as the "God of Course Design" in Japan.
Spanning a vast 700,000-tsubo (approx. 570-acre) estate, the club has gained further acclaim as the host of the "CyberAgent Ladies Tournament" since 2010. Its strategic layout and breathtaking scenery make it a must-visit destination for golfers seeking a true challenge. Furthermore, its location—just 2 kilometers from the Ichihara-Tsurumai IC on the Ken-O Expressway—provides seamless access from Tokyo and Yokohama.
Strategic Brilliance Across East and West
The club features two distinct 18-hole courses (East and West) set in a lush woodland environment where water hazards and mature trees are masterfully integrated.
The East Course demands precision over power. Notable challenges include the iconic water-carry on the Par-3 4th hole and the sharp dogleg at the 14th, which requires an pinpoint approach. In contrast, the 16th hole offers a wide fairway, making it the perfect stage for a "Longest Drive" contest.
The West Course is defined by its frequent water hazards, most notably at the 17th hole, a thrilling Par-4 that requires a shot over water.
While the fairways appear broad at first glance, Inoue’s signature subtle undulations constantly challenge a player’s lie. Additionally, the "golfer-shaming" deep rough and bunkers placed at deceptive distances from the greens ensure that this championship course remains a rigorous test of skill.
Exceptional Facilities and Culinary Delights
The club offers world-class practice facilities to ensure players are tournament-ready. This includes a 25-bay, 270-yard driving range, along with dedicated areas for sharpening approach shots and bunker play.
Inside the recently renovated, chic clubhouse, guests will find a professional pro shop offering expert club fitting and a spacious restaurant. The menu is highly regarded, particularly the Ankake Yakisoba (fried noodles with thick sauce), which is available in a small size for those seeking a lighter meal. Other favorites include the Salty Chicken Tsukemen and the Sizzling Miso Pork Set. After a round, players can unwind in the large communal baths overlooking the greenery, followed by a visit to the pristine powder rooms, which are fully stocked with premium skincare amenities.
