Shimazu Golf Club

Shimazu Golf Club is one of Kagoshima's most prestigious golf courses, opened in 1978 on the former estate of the historic Shimazu family. Set across expansive rolling hills, the course takes full advantage of the natural landscape, offering a peaceful atmosphere combined with panoramic views of Kagoshima City, Sakurajima, and Kinko Bay.

The 18-hole layout features wide fairways and generous landing areas that encourage confident, full-swing golf, particularly on the outward nine. The inward nine is slightly shorter but presents a more strategic challenge, rewarding precise course management and accurate shot-making. The natural elevation changes and mature surroundings create an enjoyable balance of power and finesse throughout the round.

Among the signature holes, the par-3 16th is widely regarded as the highlight of the course. From its elevated tee, golfers are treated to spectacular views overlooking Kagoshima City, Sakurajima volcano, and Kinko Bay, making it one of the most scenic holes in southern Japan. The 12th and 17th holes also stand out, with ponds positioned prominently in the center of the layout, demanding excellent distance control and thoughtful club selection.
