A traditional 27-hole course featuring a strategic layout shaped by the natural landscape
Kamou Country Club is a historic 27-hole hill course located in Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture. Opened in 1974 and designed by Takeyoshi Ohashi, the course is renowned for its expansive layout, mature camphor trees, and all-bentgrass greens. The three distinctive nine-hole courses—Kirishima, Sakurajima, and Kedoin—offer a variety of playing experiences, combining generous fairways with strategic bunkering and natural elevation changes.
One of the club's defining features is the abundance of centuries-old camphor trees, the symbolic tree of Kagoshima Prefecture, which line many fairways and create a tranquil atmosphere rich in history and natural beauty. The rolling terrain rewards both powerful drives and thoughtful course management, making the course enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels.
Among the most memorable holes is the par-3 8th on the Kirishima Course, which features an elevated tee shot over a picturesque valley to a well-guarded green. Another highlight is the par-5 9th on the Sakurajima Course, a challenging finishing hole with sweeping views and a risk-and-reward layout that encourages bold play while demanding accurate approach shots.
The clubhouse restaurant serves a variety of Japanese and Western dishes, with seasonal local ingredients and Kagoshima specialties providing the perfect way to relax after a round while enjoying views of the course.
Combining more than 50 years of history, majestic camphor trees, and three distinctive nine-hole layouts, Kamou Country Club offers a memorable golfing experience that blends natural beauty, strategic design, and traditional Japanese hospitality.
