An 18-hole hill course overlooking Sakurajima, Kagoshima's iconic volcano
Kagoshima Kokusai Golf Club is an 18-hole hill course located in Aira City, Kagoshima Prefecture, just 10 km from Kagoshima Airport and approximately 5 km from the Kajiki Interchange. Designed by Yoshio Asakawa and opened in 1975, the course has long been appreciated for its beautiful setting, generous layout, and enjoyable strategic challenge.
Perched on an elevated site overlooking Kinko Bay, the course offers breathtaking panoramic views of Sakurajima, Kagoshima's iconic volcano. From several holes, the scenery is so dramatic that players may feel as though they are driving their ball directly toward the sparkling waters of the bay. The spectacular natural backdrop creates a memorable golfing experience from the opening tee to the final green.
The course makes excellent use of the gently rolling terrain, featuring wide fairways that blend harmoniously with the surrounding landscape to create a spacious and open atmosphere. Although the layout is generally flat and highly walkable, subtle undulations throughout the fairways and greens, together with strategically positioned bunkers, reward thoughtful course management and precise shot-making. The design provides an enjoyable test for golfers of all skill levels while ensuring that every round remains fresh and engaging.
While the club does not designate an official signature hole, the uninterrupted views of Sakurajima and Kinko Bay from several elevated holes are undoubtedly among its greatest highlights. The ever-changing scenery, influenced by the light, weather, and seasons, makes each visit a unique experience.
After the round, golfers can unwind at the clubhouse restaurant, which offers a selection of Japanese and Western cuisine prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients. Local Kagoshima specialties are also available, providing the perfect way to conclude a memorable day of golf.
Combining magnificent scenery, a thoughtfully designed layout, and warm hospitality, Kagoshima Kokusai Golf Club offers an unforgettable golfing experience in the heart of southern Kyushu.
