Course Description

The course was named after Sherwood Forest, inspired by the legendary tales of Robin Hood.

Taiheiyo Club, Oarai Sherwood Course is a beautiful 18-hole woodland course located in Oarai Town, Higashiibaraki District, Ibaraki Prefecture, approximately 90 minutes from central Tokyo. Surrounded by lush forests and abundant natural beauty, the course offers a peaceful atmosphere while providing an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

Designed to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape, the course features gently undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and well-protected greens that reward both accuracy and thoughtful course management. Water comes into play on ten of the eighteen holes, creating a layout that is as scenic as it is strategic. The course hosted the 2001 Taiheiyo Club Ladies Leben Cup on the JLPGA Tour, highlighting its championship quality.

Among the memorable holes, the downhill par-4 6th demands careful club selection and an accurate tee shot. A drive pushed too far to the right can run into the pond, making a conservative line from the center to the left side of the fairway the safest strategy. With only around 100 yards remaining after a well-placed tee shot, the hole offers an excellent birdie opportunity.

The signature par-3 16th features a dramatic peninsula green extending into the water, while the finishing par-4 18th offers breathtaking views over Lake Hinuma. Although the green appears close from the elevated tee, the significant downhill shot requires confidence and commitment. A high, well-struck shot aimed directly at the flag provides the best chance of finishing the round on a high note.

The clubhouse offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a restaurant serving a selection of Japanese and Western cuisine prepared with seasonal ingredients. Spacious locker rooms and relaxing bath facilities provide the perfect place to unwind after a round. Combining natural beauty, strategic golf, and the renowned hospitality of Taiheiyo Club, Oarai Sherwood Course is an ideal destination for golfers seeking both relaxation and an enjoyable golfing experience.
